Serving my Community Through AmeriCorps

Serving my Community Through AmeriCorps

Whitney Held

My name is Whitney Held and I work as an employment service coach through the AmeriCorps program at Lifetrack Resources. I started in late September and I’m glad to be a part of such a dedicated staff.

As an AmeriCorps member I serve the greater Twin Cities area with fellow AmeriCorps members providing service at various non-profits in Minneapolis and St. Paul. AmeriCorps is a government program that supports a broad range of local service programs that engages thousands of Americans in intensive service to meet critical community needs. There are three different branches of service, AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps), AmeriCorps Vista, and AmeriCorps State and National. I am under the State and National branch. AmeriCorps provides tremendous opportunities, encourages self-growth, and equips members with valuable, lasting experiences.

Throughout the next year I will assist community members, specifically new immigrants and refugees, with finding and keeping employment as well as other topics related to their transition to living in America. Serving others is a passion of mine and I’m glad to help people no matter how big or small the need might be.

AmeriCorps is a great program for anyone considering work in the human services field. You get hands-on experience, learn a lot about yourself, and have the chance to greatly impact the lives of people you help. Check out americorps.gov to learn even more about how AmeriCorps is impacting our country and your local community.
