Susan
Employment Services
Susan's smile is contagious. It spreads to everyone who walks in the
door at the McDonald's where she works. Susan wasn't always this happy,
she copes with learning disabilities, diabetes, and other health related
problems. At one point she was homeless, trying just to survive.
Eager to work, Susan began to ask her county caseworker for help in finding
a job. She was referred to Lifetrack Resources. Susan's job counselor
could see her ambition, but also could see the fear of failure in her
eyes. Staff worked closely with Susan to help her realize and build on
her strengths and help her prepare for applying for jobs. Armed with new
knowledge and confidence, Susan felt ready to begin searching for the
perfect jobshe found it as a
part-time lobby clerk at McDonalds.
Working side by side with Susan, our job counselor helped her learn the
company's procedures and become more comfortable on the job. Her job counselor
developed a picture book illustrating the check-in process, created a
chart that details what cleaning chemicals are used in different parts
of the building, and provided Susan with a watch with alarms. In addition,
Lifetrack Resources' transportation department offered to help Susan get
home since there was no direct bus available when her shift ended.
Susan recently received an "outstanding rating" from her manager,
the highest you can receive, and opened her first checking account. She
has a lot to smile about!
