Transitional EmploymentWork Adjustment Training and Center Based Employment are our two transitional employment services that provide hands on training for people with disabilities at our Packaging First facility. Work Adjustment Training (WAT) is a training period used to assess a persons employment skills when they first start working a Packaging First. During this assessment, we identify the areas in which a person shows their employment strengths and also areas that may need improvement. A person usually completes their assessment within 1 to 2 months. When a person graduates from WAT, they have the opportunity to enter Center Based Employment (CBE). In past years, a person could enter CBE and remain in the program for as long as they choose if they continued to show positive work habits. However, after October 1, 2001, anyone entering CBE must have a community job goal. CBE is designed to be a transitional program for these individuals to help them maintain their skills while searching for community employment. They also have the opportunity to take Job Seeking Skills classes and GED classes right at Packaging First to further prepare them for their community job goals. For information on either of these two programs, please call John Grant at 651/265-3482. In addition, we have a model for transitional employment for people moving off welfare.
